Difficulty - Easy to Difficult
Chips Used - 4 and up
The objective of this trick is to "shuffle" 2 stacks of poker chips. The stacks can be evenly numbered or off by 1.
- Start by placing 2 stacks of chips on the table in front of you with the edges of the chips touching. You will want to start with small stacks; I recommend 3 chips in each. When learning this trick use 2 stacks of different color chips. This will help to determine if the trick was performed properly.
- Picture an imaginary line running through the center of both stacks. Place your thumb on the edge of one stack (stack 1) at that line. Your middle and ring fingers will be on either side of the line of the other stack (stack 2). You can use your pinky to help hold stack 2 in place.
- Now place your index finger on the stack 1 near the point the 2 stack touch.
- Lift the center of the chips slightly with your index finger while pressing the 2 stacks together with your thumb, middle, and ring fingers. The edge of the bottom chip of stack 1 should fall above the edge of the bottom chip of stack 2 and so on.
- Push the 2 chip stacks together using all of your fingers. You should end up with 1 stack.
When learning the chip shuffle, the tendency is to apply too much pressure. This will make the chips slide out of alignment and go everywhere. You will also find that the chips do not always separate well and you end up with the bottom and second chips from one stack sliding in between the bottom and second chip of the other stack. This why you should learn with stacks of different color.
Once you learn the basics of shuffling chips, you should add more chips and try to shuffle faster. You will also want to learn to pick up exactly half of a shuffled stack so you can make 2 stacks to shuffle again.
